Meditation

Inner discovery and self-transformation
So often, the call to fulfill important needs comes with a deeper recognition of present stress, emotional pain, and physical tightness in our bodies.

To grow in the direction we want to grow requires tending how we are now.

Whether your need is to deepen self-connection, self-understanding, and healing; to move towards community, evolution, and authenticity; or to make a greater contribution, a meditation practice is an important step so you meet yourself where you are.

Attempting to by-pass your current physiological state doesn't work.  Or at best, it's a temporary band-aid, which isn't sustainable.

What does work is a practice that allows you to start where you are, and build your capacity for connection, agency, and free attention.  Meditation is an effective way to support your well-being and simultaneously to build important skills that become more and more accessible in daily life.

Everything you experience belongs as a part of your wholeness.  Meditation practice can support a deepening in your presence, and a softening towards patterns of tension in the body such as tightening, draining, pushing, and harshness.

Deepening self-contact contributes to stress reduction, grounding, self-understanding, and connecting with inner resource and light.

Meditation is not a final destination or a form of anesthesia to numb whatever is challenging in your life, or in the world.  It's a tending of your wholeness and well-being, which contributes to the felt sense that you and the world were never disconnected.

"The message of the Himalayan tradition is one of self realization—to first become aware of the reality within ourselves, and to build a bridge between our inner and outer worlds. This inner journey of self discovery has the capacity to grant us freedom from all fears, propel our transformation and empowerment, and lead us to the pinnacle of self-realization." ~~ shared by the Himalayan Institute

The lineage includes:
  • Raja (Patanjali) yoga, meditation, and contemplation, focused on disentangling from the not Self
  • Worldview and philosophical wisdom of the tradition including the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and Tantric texts, and enriched by Sankhya, Vedanta and Tantric philosophies
  • The study and practice of mantra meditation (the Yoga of sound)
  • The study and practice of Tantra through rituals, pranayama, hatha yoga, and kundalini yoga, and yoga nidra
  • Healing traditions inspired by yoga and Ayurveda
The teaching of Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, of the Himalayan Institute, flows through an unbroken line of teachings of the Himalayan Masters, which I was initiated into by Pandit Tigunait in 2003.

There are many different kinds of practices from the Himalayan lineage, which create a connection with various dimensions of ourselves.
I bring in practices in an intuitive, non-traditional way, which is trauma-informed, meets you where you are, and creates agency and competency related to what your intention for working with me.

"In this day and age when the world is shrinking into a global family, we must realize that our first identity is that we are human beings.  Unless we, as individuals, gain this realization at a personal level, political maneuvering and the sweet-sounding talking of peace will bear no fruit.  It is only this knowledge that can make the idea of loving all and hating none, embracing all and exluding none, a living reality."
-- Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Touched by Fire

Practice ~ Devotion ~ Selfless Service

The scope of the Himalayan tradition of Sri Vidya is a vast umbrella, a weave of the right hand  path of Tantra,  Patanjali (or classical Raja) Yoga, and Ayurveda. This includes Yogas such as Kundalini Yoga, Vinyasa  Yoga, Yin, Restorative, Nidra, Power, Power, Bhakti, Kriya, traditional Hatha, Meditation, Pranayama, Mudra, and  more.

The underlying philosophy is that Yoga is Medicine.  When we understand ourselves and what we need, and understand the specific quality that each practice yields,  we can do the right practice in the right way at the right time to support ourselves.
